On a 10-point scale what are you working on that has to be a “10” and what are you working on that can be a “7”?
Hint, the “10s” are the few projects and initiatives fundamental to the fulfillment of your organization’s mission and vision. They are nonnegotiable because they represent the difference between your impact on the world and what the people down the street are working on.
Most people operate as if everything has to be a “10.” It’s a great way to drive yourself and your colleagues to exhaustion and frustration.
Do what matters most as well as you can. Let the other stuff be good enough.
