The dishwasher leaked enough water, for long enough, that an epic mold field grew under our counters and up the drywall in the back.
Out came the counter, the sink, the cabinets and the dishwasher, of course.
This was the first week of December.
Today, the mold is gone, the cabinets are back in but, alas, no running water, because the counter top is not ready.
In this frustrating and ultimately opportunistic moment, Theresa redistributed our kitchen wares into the newly replaced drawers in a new way.
“Why were the kitchen towels and dishrags up here, in the first place? What were we thinking?”
They are not there anymore, I can tell you that.
And so I continue to reach for one drawer when I am supposed to reach for another.
Change.
Small change.
Is hard.
I like my chances but it’s humbling to realize how just how tough it can be to roll with the punches.
And I’m not part of a migrant family looking for a new home. No, I am not.
What must that be like?
I’ll never know.
It’s another beautiful Christmas Eve, and I’ll never know.
Be thankful today. And get better at rolling with the punches. It’s the least we can do.
