The world keeps turning.

Some days, some weeks – like this one – I am more aware than usual of that truth.

It keeps turning, an unrelenting progression of days, weeks, months and years. This turning brings seasons, and these seasons remind us that what is must give way to what will be.

It just keeps turning.

And it is our job…our most important work…to engage that turning as well equipped, as well prepared, and as well-connected as we can possibly be.

And our equipment, our preparations, our connections, even though solidly and thoughtfully crafted and prepared, can not and will not prevent us from being tested, even laid low, by the realities of what each season brings.

This week, just this week: departures, losses, changes of ultimate gravity.

I pause. I consider. I weep. I grieve.

And I reach for the equipment, preparations and connections I have made, hoping they will bear my weight, waiting for the sun to rise again.
