“This is how you are to eat it: with your cloak tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet and your staff in your hand. Eat it in haste; it is the LORD’s Passover.” Exodus 12:11, NIV
The explicit call to readiness in the Passover instructions could not be clearer. What I wonder is how many members of that community, given such explicit instructions, ignored the call to action and disregarded the opportunity for freedom. God explicitly says to Moses and Aaron, “Tell the whole community of Israel…” (Exodus 12:3, NIV) and I’m confident they wasted little time and did exactly that. And, still, didn’t there have to be some who shrugged it off? Some who just weren’t willing to take the steps necessary to escape their persecution?
If that’s accurate, if even one family failed to follow through on the passover instructions, how frustrating that must have been for Moses and Aaron!
Leaders rarely – maybe never – have the precise instructions for the survival of radical change. It doesn’t work that way. What effective leaders possess, and what they are responsible for modeling to their followers, is a commitment to be ready.
Not knowing what to do when change comes is understandable. Not being ready to act in the face of change is unacceptable.
Leaders are always ready to go.
